The aggregate capacity of this VPP is estimated at 2.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh), a figure that dwarfs Eskom’s current 1.4 GWh Battery Energy Storage Programme—a multi-billion rand infrastructure project that has taken years to develop. The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated: Plentify and Deye are demonstrating how existing distributed energy assets can be repurposed to deliver grid-scale benefits without the need for new infrastructure.
