In a vibrant celebration of Children’s Day 2026, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, made a compelling case for a transformative approach to education. The minister urged educators to instill lessons of equality and positive masculinity in classrooms, marking a significant shift in the nation’s educational paradigm.

The annual Children’s Day celebration, a time-honored tradition in Nigeria, took on a new dimension this year. The minister’s address, delivered with passion and conviction, resonated with educators, parents, and children alike. She emphasized the need for a holistic approach to education, one that goes beyond academic excellence to encompass character building and social responsibility.

The Urgency of Equality Lessons

Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted the urgency of integrating equality lessons into the curriculum. She pointed out that the seeds of gender equality and mutual respect must be sown early in the lives of children. This, she argued, would foster a generation of Nigerians who value and practice equality in all spheres of life.

‘Equality is not just a concept to be taught but a practice to be lived,’ the minister stated. She called on teachers to be role models, demonstrating through their actions the principles of equality and respect. This approach, she believes, will create a ripple effect, influencing not just the students but the broader community.

Redefining Masculinity

A significant portion of the minister’s address was dedicated to the concept of positive masculinity. She challenged the traditional notions of masculinity that often emphasize dominance and aggression. Instead, she advocated for a redefinition that includes empathy, responsibility, and partnership.

‘Positive masculinity is about being strong enough to be gentle, brave enough to be kind, and confident enough to respect others,’ she explained. This redefinition, she believes, will help boys grow into men who are not only successful but also compassionate and respectful.

The Role of Gender Partnership

The minister also stressed the importance of gender partnership. She envisions a society where men and women work together as equals, each bringing their unique strengths to the table. This partnership, she argued, is essential for the progress and development of Nigeria.

‘Gender partnership is not about competition but about collaboration,’ she said. She called on educational institutions to create environments that encourage and facilitate such partnerships, preparing students for a future where gender equality is the norm.

Implementation Strategies

To translate these ideals into reality, the minister outlined several strategies. These include:

  • Integrating equality and positive masculinity lessons into the national curriculum.
  • Providing training and resources for teachers to effectively deliver these lessons.
  • Encouraging community involvement and support for these educational initiatives.
  • Establishing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess the impact of these lessons.

Community and Parental Involvement

The minister emphasized the crucial role of parents and the community in reinforcing these lessons. She called on parents to be active participants in their children’s education, supporting and reinforcing the values taught in schools.

‘Education is a shared responsibility,’ she stated. She urged communities to create safe and supportive environments where children can grow and thrive, free from gender stereotypes and biases.

A Vision for the Future

In conclusion, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim painted a vivid picture of a future Nigeria where equality and positive masculinity are the cornerstones of society. She expressed her confidence that with the collective efforts of educators, parents, and the community, this vision can become a reality.

‘This is not just about shaping the future of our children but about shaping the future of our nation,’ she declared. Her address, filled with hope and determination, left a lasting impression on all who attended the celebration.

As Nigeria moves forward, the minister’s call for equality lessons and positive masculinity in classrooms serves as a beacon of progress and a testament to the nation’s commitment to building a more equitable and just society. This African entertainment news highlights the transformative power of education and the pivotal role it plays in shaping the future of the continent.
